The Wish

One weekend evening, I had no plans at all. I was at home, quietly reading a book. Suddenly, a thought crossed my mind: What if I make a wish? I put the book aside and wished that my friends would call me and say they were coming to pick me up so we could go dancing. Then I went back to reading. A little while later, my phone rang. It was my friends. They said they would come by at 9 p.m. to pick me up — and that we were going to a disco. I remember feeling genuinely surprised. How could that happen so exactly? And then I thought, smiling to myself: Next time, I should probably wish to win the lottery.
